How old do you have to be to own a 22 caliber rifle in West Virginia?
My brothers son wants to own one and he is thirteen. Where can you shoot it and what are the penalties if you do possess it when you are underage.
Also if an adult buys the gun and owns it can the kid shoot with it as long as he is supervised?
You would have to check with Your State fish and Game Dept about the minimum age to hunt with it. To casually shoot on private land you would need the owner permission as long as it is ouside of city limits. Adult supervision is strongly suggested and may be requiered by local law.
The best option would be to find a gun club with a junior rifle program. My club has one on Sunday afternoons 2-4 and we provide the guns ammo, targets adult coaches and always have a Range Safety officer or two on duty and it is Free. Alas we are just outside of Fort Worth Texas and no hope for your nephew. There are many other Gun Clubs in the U.S. that have similar programs
