How tight fitting should a hunter show coat be?
Next month I'll show in my first hunter show in 10 years. I'm very excited!
Luckily my two hunter show coats still fit me in the shoulders. However, I was recently told that today's hunter show coats are much tighter/form fitting than they used to be - more like dressage coats.
Is this true? If so, I'll have to make a trip to the tailer ASAP!
Thanks for the input~
Tighter isn't really the correct word, but definitely form fitting. Having the ability to move well in the coat is very necessary, but the slightly boxy look that used to be the norm is out, todays hunt coats are much more tailored throughout the bust/waist/hips. Hunters used to mean more along the lines of the traditional field hunters, now there is much more cross over between equitation and hunters. In eq it is crucial that your form can be evaluated, therefore a more fitted coat was needed, with the crossover that style has also been adopted in the hunter ring. To have a coat taken in and fitted is pretty simple, nothing tends to fit me off the rack and with the tailor shop I go to I usually pick up next day for under $10.
