How can I deal with the cost of showing horses?
I showed a lot the year before last, but last year I just didn't have time. Now my parents say they don't want to have to deal with the cost of showing- particularly the trailer part. I mean, the classes really aren't that expensive, and if I started winning, I could win some prize money to fund that. But I don't have my own trailer (and there's no way my parents could afford to buy one). We used to rent one every time we showed, but that was extremely expensive. Would it be possible to just hitch a ride with some of the people at my barn who are going to the same shows? Do you think I'd have to pay for that? I need to get creative, because I really would like to show- plus the horse I ride is very talented and I'd like to try for a college scholarship in equestrian, which would really be helpful, but I'd need to rack up a lot of points iin my region first.
Any suggestions? Thanks for you help.
The only way you can find out is to just ask. The worst they can tell you is 'no'. I would at least try to contribute a little gas money, to be fair. But its no big deal, a lot of people car/trailer pool to shows.
You could also (if you are any good at it) braid other peoples horse's manes and tails at shows for extra money.
