Is it harmful to use lamp oil (Liquid Wax Paraffin) on charcoal briquettes for BBQ'ing?
Is it harmful to substitute normal briquette lighter fluid with liquid wax paraffin oil that is used for indoor oil lamps (Such as Lamplight Ultra-Pure)?
Yes, it IS harmful and not recommended. There are many complex chemical compounds in paraffin that are not initially burned when lighting your fire that are burned when cooking your food. Your beautiful steak will absorb some of these chemical residues imparting a very nice 'crude oil flavour' to your meal!
Ever smell crude oil burning?
Much better to sprinkle a teaspoon of cooking oil on a sheet of newspaper, crumble up the paper and light under real charcoal- not briquettes that already have manufacturing chemicals - to start your cooking fire!
