Horse Tack - Nylon Coated Bridles?
Hi! I'm shopping around online at different horse websites for training tack for my American Saddlebred. I came across a Coated Nylon Side Check Bridle. I was wondering, does the "coated nylon" have any cons to it? It would seem to me that compared to leather it would give the horses rubs more easily, not be as good as leather, ect. Anyone know if they make good bridles or not, and what the pros/cons are to them?
Also, I'm looking for saddleseat training equipment - I would love any websites that sell such! Thanks!
Thank you, I know nothing about this kind of material - this is the bridle I was talking about

True, it is easy to clean. It is supposed to cause fewer sores, because as the horse sweats, it starts to smooze over the hair. In the summer. My horses grow really long winter hair, and I don't trim more than the goat beard at the jaw, so in the winter it really pulls on those long hairs. It also doesn't form to the horse; it retains it's memory of being straight, so it just never lays quite right. I also hate the color. The brown is just kind of dead looking and doesn't match anything, and the black is so dull looking that it lacks character. I hate the feel of biothane reins; they are just so stiff, and even through my gloves they rub blisters on me (unless my hands are sweating).
Then there is my biggest issue with it: it won't break. Now I know that sounds good, but I want a bridle that will break if something horrible happens. I have had horses catch their bridles on things and pull back, or toss me and run and break reins. As much as I don't like replacing those items, I really would hate to replace a horse due to the horse breaking rather than the tack.
I can see where endurance riders and competitive driving folks would really like this stuff. It is such a pain to clean strap goods, that being able to just hose the stuff off or dunk in in a bucket would be a big draw. For show riding or for myself, I just don't like it. I bought a bridle, used it a month, and sold it to a girl who claimed she never cleaned her tack and she loved it.
It is very much a personal choice. In this case, I choose to use more traditional leather.

I cannot tell you how theses sites are for tack. I know some of the brands are very nice. I rode Saddleseat before Dan Quayle invented the internet.....
