What are your thoughts on training tack?
What do you think about:
.German martingles
.chambones
.draw reins
.bungees
.tack noseband
A tack noseband is just a regular noseband that has little pieces of metal lining the inside, you adjust it so that it is really loose, so the horse only feels that tacks if he pulls on you. Also, nosebands ARE nescecary, if a horse gapes his mouth, then he won't even feel the bit, the point of the noseband is to close the horses mouth around the bit, so that the bit actually does something!!!:)
German martingales can be helpful, depending on how you use them. They are nice in that you can't pull a horse's head to its chest. As a way to get a headset, they are no better than draw reins. To help guide the horse to a release, they can be really nice. Chambons are okay for longeing- at least they let the horse stretch its neck down. Draw reins can be helpful if used only for short sessions with skilled hands. They will only mess up a horse's neck and back if used for an instant headset, but, like a German martingale, can help a horse find a release and stretch into contact if used skillfuly. I've never heard of a bungee or a tack noseband, unless you mean a cavesson or maybe flash noseband? Nosebands are nice but unnecessary. They really only shut a horse's mouth and can help keep the bridle on depending on the situation. A well-adjusted noseband doesn't inhibit breathing or relaxation of the jaw, however they can mask problems if adjusted too tight.
In response to the post about them being cruel, it depends on how you use them. There seems to be an anti-training aid bug going around which is pretty well justified but sometimes leads people to believe all training aids are harsh, which isn't the case at all.
ETA:
Oh, that's what you meant. Tacked nosebands have no place in horsemanship. There is no way to completely avoid causing pain to the horse if you have tacks strapped to ots face. Oh, and I'm not denying that a noseband serves a function, however if they are used to keep the horse's mouth shut to disguise rough hands, they become a band aid. As to the comment about them not being able to feel the bit if their mouth is opened, I think if someone hauled hard enough they'd be able to feel it. The idea is to be light enough that you don't truly need a noseband to shut the mouth because the horse isn't gaping from pain in the first place. I'm not attacking you, just making a statement FYI
