What do you train with first the bit or saddle?
When training a horse for pleasure riding all by yourself what goes first, the bit or saddle? Like them accepting the bit first or them accepting the saddle and a rider on top of them and then gradually put the bit on them?
how exactly do you train with the bit? Do you just put it in or do you gently pull.....i'm not sure?
I typically let my babies pack a BIG egg butt snaffle rigged on a headstall, just around their stall or round pen for a couple of hours for about a week at a time. Once they accept the bit and don't do silly things with it, then I put on my surcingle and attach my side reins... Then again they "HANG OUT" wearing their new gear. Then I bit them to one side, then the other, teaching them to turn.
Once they can do all that and work at a walk, trot and lope while wearing the gear, I THEN and only THEN put a saddle on their back.
